Are porcelain veneers right for you?
Porcelain Veneers Can Improve Many Imperfections
Veneers can be used on just one tooth or several and can improve the appearance of teeth that are:
Candidates for Dental Veneers
Oral Health
Patients must be in good dental health in order to be good candidates for porcelain veneers. People that have decay or gum disease will need to resolve these issues before moving on to cosmetic enhancement.
Severity of Dental Imperfections
Dental veneers may not be the right option for very severe cosmetic concerns. If you have significant misalignment, for example, you may be a better candidate for orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign®. Meanwhile, minor surface stains can often be addressed with simple teeth whitening.
Bruxism & TMJ
Bruxism and TMJ disorder are conditions that can lead to excessive wear on your teeth and your veneers. Dr. Podilsky may be able to recommend an appropriate therapy for these disorders so you can proceed with veneers.
Treatment Goals
It is important to understand that once your teeth are prepped for veneers, they will always require some kind of restoration. If your goal is to achieve the most natural-looking solution, and you are comfortable with a permanent dental alteration, veneers may be right for you. However, if you are not ready to commit to an irreversible procedure, consider dental bonding instead.
If you have an upcoming event such as a wedding, engagement photos, or graduation, veneers can help you completely enhance the look of your smile in a matter of weeks.

Understanding The Cost Of Veneers
A set of 6-8 porcelain veneers at our Downtown Edmonton practice can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000. However, the restorations are priced individually, so patients looking to treat just one tooth can expect to pay far less. Yes, the procedure is an investment, but when it comes to making permanent changes to your smile, it is important not to cut corners in the interest of saving money. Meanwhile, choosing a dentist like Dr. Podilsky to perform your treatment can help you experience the maximum benefits of this treatment.
Consider Flexible Financing
Many patients who are unhappy with their smiles avoid consulting with a dentist because they are worried about cost. However, enhanced teeth that give you self-confidence are a valuable asset that we believe should be accessible to those who want it.
To help you manage out-of-pocket expenses, we offer in-house flexible financing. This option is tailored to your budget and needs, allowing you to pay for treatment on a schedule that works for you. Our staff is glad to help you explore these options.
Psst... Veneers Can Also Refine Facial Features
Veneers do more than make your teeth and smile more attractive. They can also subtly refine your appearance by adding fullness to your face and accentuating cheekbones.
If your lip line falls too low and shrinks your smile, veneers can be crafted to add fullness to your lip and position it higher so your teeth take center stage.
Even fine lines around the mouth can be eased by adding volume to your teeth with veneers.

Caring for Porcelain Veneers
Practice Good Hygiene
Like natural teeth, your porcelain veneers should be brushed twice each day and flossed at least once daily. Proper dental hygiene will protect the foundation of your smile from gum disease and tooth decay. Make sure to attend regular dental checkups to prevent serious problems.
Stop Certain Habits
Putting your dental veneers under excess pressure could potentially lead to fractures or chips in the porcelain. It is best to avoid biting your fingernails, chewing on ice, and opening packages with your teeth as these can all put undue stress on your restorations.
Avoid Discoloration
While porcelain is stain-resistant, your enamel is not. Avoid black tea, coffee, red wine, or tobacco, which can all discolor your teeth and make your veneers look out of place. We can also provide whitening treatments to brighten your enamel and achieve color consistency.
To help you manage out-of-pocket expenses, we offer in-house flexible financing.
Porcelain Veneer FAQs
How long do porcelain veneers last?
The lifespan of a porcelain veneer can vary, but with proper maintenance, many patients find their treatment lasts for 10 years or more. While modern dental veneers are much more durable than the ones placed in years past, they will need to be replaced at some point in the future. Also, remember: Once your tooth has been prepped for a veneer, it will always require a restoration of some kind.
What are the potential risks of porcelain veneers?
Treatment is relatively low-risk, and most complications are minor. Potential risks include chipping, and the veneer detaching from the surface of the tooth. These can be avoided with the proper care.
Do temporary veneers look good?
Many of our patients find that their temporaries look natural and are not perceived as dental work by others. We take great care even with your temporaries because they are an important tool that allows you to provide us with the feedback we need to make your permanent veneer results meet your expectations.
How many teeth should I treat with dental veneers?
This is a personal decision for each patient that really depends on your goals. If you have one tooth with a small chip, a single veneer may be all you need. Most of the time, only the upper teeth are visible, so we treat a majority of cases in the upper dental arch.
Do I have other cosmetic dentistry options?
One of the most common alternatives to veneers is a procedure known as dental bonding. In this procedure, we apply composite resin to conceal chips, stains, and cracks. Although the composite resin is carefully matched to the color of your teeth, it is not as lifelike or durable as porcelain, and will not last as long. We also offer Invisalign and teeth whitening. To find the right option for your needs, schedule a consultation at our Downtown Edmonton office and speak directly to one of our dentists.
Have You Considered a Smile Design?
While veneers excel at masking several cosmetic imperfections at once, some patients have dental problems that are not just cosmetic. In a Smile Design, our Edmonton dentists can take a more holistic approach to your dental needs. By addressing both cosmetic and dental issues, we can design a smile that is both beautiful and healthy.
