Benefits of CEREC Dental Restorations By Dr. Nathaniel Podilsky on November 02, 2012

CEREC® Dental Restorations BenefitsThere was a time when getting first-class ceramic dental restorations meant having to wait for them to be crafted at an outside laboratory and then returned to your dentist’s office. This also meant that you would have to attend at least two appointments: one at which your dentist would arrive at the specs to provide the lab for the creation of your restorations, and a second at which they would be placed in your mouth. The time investment was substantial, and the multiple appointments and involvement of a third party only added to the overall cost of treatment.

At the Edmonton dentistry practice of Dr. Nathaniel Podilsky, we have always put the comfort, convenience, safety, and overall satisfaction of our patients above all else. This is why our office features the CEREC® milling machine. CEREC® technology allows us to craft quality veneers and crowns while you wait. In most cases, you will be able to have your teeth evaluated, your treatment planned, and your restorations placed all during a single visit.

How CEREC® Works

CEREC® uses advanced three-dimensional digital imaging and CAD/CAM technology to create immaculate restorations. Although the CEREC® system represents the culmination of decades of research and development, the CEREC® process is actually quite beneficial:

  1. Dr. Podilsky takes a digital photograph of the area to be treated
  2. This photograph is used to create a 3-d digital model of the restoration
  3. Dr. Podilsky refines the digital model until it meets his exact specifications
  4. The resulting design is transmitted to the CEREC® milling machine
  5. The CEREC® machine fabricates the restoration from a solid block of material
  6. Dr. Podilsky prepares the tooth or teeth, as necessary
  7. The restoration is placed

It’s that simple. A process that once took days or even weeks to complete can now take mere hours. You’ll emerge from treatment with a healthy, natural-looking smile.

Uses of CEREC®

CEREC® restorations can be placed directly on the teeth, as would be the case with veneers, inlays, and onlays, as well as dental crowns used to restore teeth after root canal therapy. They can also be used in other applications at our office in Edmonton; dental implants can be restored with CEREC® crowns, while dental bridges can include artificial teeth crafted with CEREC®. Truly, the CEREC® system is one of the most versatile technological breakthroughs ever to emerge in the dental field.
